Born in New York City in 1925 to an engineer and an artist, grandson of a Cornell mycologist and a Cornell engineering professor.

Served as a radar aerial navigator in the Pacific in 1945.

Trained as a mechanical engineer at Cornell University, class of 1950 (GI Bill).

Lifelong rock climber and amateur astronomer.

Father of a sustainable food/tech strategist, a painter/teacher, and a cabinetmaker/musician.

Longtime member and leader of the Appalachian Mountain Club Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee.

Longtime American Alpine Club, New England Section Chair; awarded the Angelo Heilprin Citation for service to the AAC in 2006.
